Timely sketch of electrifying car
People often ask me how do I decide what to draw for my Seattle Times column. Whatever topic I choose, I have one criteria I try to fulfill: My sketch has to be timely. After all, it runs in the Local news section of the newspaper.
One way to look for timely ideas is to stay tuned to events in your city. For example, this week I sketched the owner of an electric vehicle as a preview of National Plug In Day. Knowing the date was coming up, I got searching for local electric car owners and stumbled upon Jeff Finn's website. His story about turning a used car into an electric sounded more interesting than sketching the owner of a regular hybrid or electric car.
And that brings me to another important criteria I try keep in mind: to draw things that are interesting!
