Do you mind if I sketch you?

I took one minute to jot down this sketch of Mark Hoffmann while he introduced me to his students at Montserrat College of Art, the Massachusetts art school I visited last month. A native Midwesterner, Mark is a very talented illustrator and dedicated teacher. I hope he gives me a good grade on this sketch.

Unless I'm working on a skech story for the paper, I usually think twice before sketching someone I have just met for the first time — you never know how they are going to react. But it's different when you are around other artists. They don't get scared if you pull out your sketchbook and start drawing. It's like being among family.

  1. I think for a sketcher paper and a pen are like being dressed... Have a very good 2011!
