Las Vegas Sketcher for a day

I was in Las Vegas earlier this week for a newspaper conference —the Society of News Design annual workshop to be precise. It wasn't my first time in America's Disneyland for adults, but I was again impressed by this city's wild character. Tuesday morning I put on my Vegas Sketcher hat and went to the strip to do some sketching. Here's what I did:

The New York New York Hotel Casino. I can't really describe how unbelievable the sight of this place is. The buildings here are not just a facade, they are the real hotel towers where guests stay. I also came later in the day with some colleagues from the conference and we went on the rollercoaster, which goes upside down twice, no less. Then we watched the Cirque du Soleil show Zumanity. Quite the entertainment!

The Paris Hotel is further north on Las Vegas Boulevard, also known as 'the strip'. They did an amazing good job here as well replicating the Paris landmarks. What else can I say? Viva Las Vegas!

  6. Wow!!!!! oh Wow!!!! I finally get to see a sketch of yours of a place I have actually been to. These are awesome and you've just stepped up a notch or two in my eyes! I really don't care for the adult Disneyland preferring to hang out by the pools or at the spas when I go. But those excursions onto the strip...well, you have it here! Bravo Gabi!

  8. yeah, Vegas is really an original phenomenon, whether you like it or not there's nothing like it anywhere else in the world. i'm not into gambling though, i just played a dollar at the slot machines at the airport on the way back and end up winning 25 cents! thank you all for the comments!

  9. Wow, all those years in Palm Springs and this was your first trip to Vegas? I wish I would have known that you had never been there when we were all desert rats. Any excuse for a road trip to Vegas! It was only 4 hours away on the two-lane backroads through the Mojave Desert. There would have been some great sketching opportunities there too of the Joshua trees and sand dunes out through the Mojave National Preserve. Great stuff Gabi! As always, I love your work.

  10. HOLA!!
    Estamos contigo.
