Keeping track of flights

[View larger] Sunday, Sept. 7 — 7:45 p.m. Waiting to board Alaska Airlines flight 614 to Las Vegas.

My trip to Las Vegas last week sent me looking for the notebook where a few years ago I started writing down every flight I've taken.

Why would I keep track of that? I think it's part of my anal-retentive personality and part childhood fascination with flying. It wasn't until 1990 that I actually went on a plane for the first time. I was 21. Ever since, I've found jumping on a plane and going somewhere far away a unique experience.

I still need to update the book with my flights before 1999. Since that year —if I counted right— I've taken 124.

• By the way, did you know that Alaska Airlines is based in Seattle, not Alaska? I didn't until a few years ago. Wikipedia has a few more interesting facts about the airline with the Eskimo logo.

  1. I used to do the very same thing, Gabi! One day I was bored and decided to make a list of every flight I had taken. I stopped the list about a year ago but should retake it one of these days.

When I lived in Seattle I took an Alaskan Airways flight to Juneau: I still keep the boarding card.

My last flight: a Ryanair from Alghero in Sardinia to Girona.

Congratulations again for your great sketches: love them!

  2. Yay! Good to know there are more people out there doing the same things that seem crazy to me. I hope to do Seattle-Juneau one of these days. Thanks Montse!

  3. I hope you get to sketch the Salmon-Thirty-Salmon sometime. :)

  4. Que inveja!!! Great work.

  5. woa, i didn't know about the salmon-thirty-salmon! joshua, you're a wealth of seattle knowledge, or so it seems to a newbie like me! here's a link to a photo of the salmon-thirty-salmon plane for others who are wondering what the heck we are talking about. i definitely want to sketch that one, it's awesome!
