World's largest building at Boeing

One of my Father's Day treats yesterday was to get a free afternoon to do whatever I wanted. And what better than to sketch the "world's largest building" at the Boeing factory in Everett. We've driven by it numerous times and it was high on my list of things I wanted to sketch. From the road you can see six enormous doors, like the one on the sketch, each the size of a football field. Airplanes come out of here when they're assembled and go over a bridge to another building where they are painted. I couldn't find a good vantage point from across the highway to draw the entire building, but I found a spot from where I sketkched this door that was not completely shut. This was not my only sketch of the afternoon near the Boeing grounds. I did another one that I'll post tomorrow. It shows an interesting airplane, can you guess which one?

  1. Happy Belated Father's Day Gabi! What an giant of a subject you have here! Unfortunately, I have no guesses when it comes to the plane :(

By the way, how are you able to post your drawings so big? They look great this size~!

  2. Hey! next time you come to draw one of the Everett plant buildings I will go out of office and try to stand up in front just to be in one of your sketches... ;)

If you liked the outside...buff, you should try to have a look at the inside with all those planes only half made...mmm....cameras are forbidden, but they don't say anything about drawings!

  3. hi aeroroldy! i'd love to be able to sketch inside, would you take me on a tour? my son would also love to see the airplanes inside but we can't go on the museum tours yet because he's not 4 feet tall. that's what the rules say. oh, well. hopefully soon, he grows fast ;)

suzanne, to get the drawings big I tweaked the template in blogger and now link the photos to Flickr, which allows you to enter the pixel dimensions in the string of code you get in the 'all sizes' window

  5. You make me want to see Seattle for myself - your drawings make it so interesting! Is it that super duper big thing, a 787, or something like that? The scale of this building is amazing.
