Space Needle, the "ugly" angle

We are used to seeing city landmarks like the Space Needle from beautiful angles. When taking photos, we often aim for the picture perfect composition. The views from uninteresting places like a parking lot usually go unnoticed, but they still exist. I like to capture those whenever I can. (You can see all my Space Needle sketches here.)

  2. Gabi,
You are right, that is an interesting angle. Although I wish more places could, or would, but their utility lines underground. There is nothing like utility poles and lines to interfere with otherwise picturesque views. I find it interesting that you kept them in your sketch. If I were an artist I would be tempted to edit them out.

  3. hi gary, i appreciate your insight! i agree about putting the utility lines underground, but i wouldn't edit them out of the picture, that'd be cheating! it's one thing to simplify a scene into few lines, it's another to deliberately not draw something because it doesn't look good. i guess i like to take a more 'documentary' approach to sketching, recording what's in front of my eyeballs as accurately as possible
