Nutcracker

My 4-and-a-half-year-old, Alex, insists this nutcracker is a toy, but we tell him it's for decoration, not for playing. You may also disagree if you'd like, but one thing is not debatable: except for the hat, hair and beard, it is made of wood. And that's one of the recent challenges at the Every Day Matters Yahoo group. (Prismacolor pencils and a touch of white with gouache paint, 8.5 x 11 inches.)

  1. Wonderful detail and shading! I can really feel the different textures.

  2. Beautiful shading, and the fur looks so shiny. My sister has a huge collection of these and I remember at Christmas how hard it was to keep her kids from playing with them. They look irresistible - just like your sketch.
