Drawing bones

Yesterday's skulls and bones reminded me of something I usually forget when I draw people: to concentrate on their bones first. I tend to draw contours more than I draw volumes and the structure that supports them. That's probably a really bad habit I have as a self-taught artist. In the past, I've copied images from anatomy books to study what's under the flesh and improve my skills. Here are a couple of pages with bones from a dusty old sketchbook. Hope they are not too macabre for you!

  1. Oh I love your new look! As for the bones...very cool. I think because I had to study anatomy for my nursing degree I DO tend to look for bone structure when doing portraits and it really does help.
Gabi, thank you so much for your kind comments and I'm glad you enjoyed following along on my trip. I had your 'top 10' with me in Barcelona and although I couldn't do them all I was appriciative of the advice. I just loved the Gaudi buildings and the Sagrada Familia is a site to behold! Gracias!!!
