The viaduct debate

©The Seattle Times
The illustration at the top here ran a couple of weeks ago on The Seattle Times Sunday Opinion page with two articles expressing different views on how to replace the aging viaduct freeway that runs along Seattle's waterfront: building a new elevated structure or a tunnel. Below is a sketch and an alternative idea playing off the idea of campaign electoral buttons. I found the first option to be the best, the black-and-white mirror-like effect symbolizing the two sides of the same issue.
